3000 Kiwis Say Hi to Rebecca
January 2009

John performed at the World Buskers Festival in Christchurch, New Zealand in January. Rebecca was home, pregnant with our son, so John sent a message home:

John came in first place at the 2008 World Yo-Yo Contest held at Universal Studios in Orlando Florida. He competed in Artistic Performance which is one of the few divisions at the contest, against yo-yoers from all over the world.

This metal ball-bearing yo-yo features a light grey "Rebecca" half and a dark grey "John" half . John did all the artwork for this yo-yo, it was then machined & laser engraved by the wizards over at Yo-Yo Factory. Click on the photos for a more detailed look. Wicked!

Tulips! Buskers in the tulips! Well, next to the tulips. Our first shows in Canada for 2008.

Ansan International Busking Festival - Ansan, Korea
May 3-5, 2008

The crowds in Korea were probably the most upbeat, interactive and appreciative audiences we've ever performed for. We also had amazing translators and help with our show -- they made our time between shows very entertaining and fun. We're ready to go back to Ansan any time!

We Are Official Guinness World Record Holders! - Madrid, Spain
February 23, 2008

We flew to Madrid to film for the European Guinness World Records TV show. On air, John set the record: "The fastest time to knock a coin off the ear of 15 participants with a yo-yo is 1min 50sec." In addition to setting the record, hanging out with the other world record holders was a blast: we hung out with the world's tallest man, the world's smallest man, and the woman with the world's longest fingernails, among others. An amazing experience!

Microsoft TechReady 6 "Launch" - Seattle, WA
February 14 , 2008

Microsoft's Tech Ready 6 Party! Wow! The theme of this event was "Launch" and hosted more than 6,000 of Microsoft's brightest technicians from all over the world. There were four different "spaced out" environments & entertainment zones; we were in one called "Systems." The audience was amazing! Our main stage show included elements of our glow show with lots of light-up action. After every performance we offered a hands-on yo-yo workshop which was a huge hit with everyone that participated. This is one of the best private parties we've ever been a part of.

Happy New Year!
December 31, 2007

We're finally starting a blog! We have some interesting stories & events from our business as traveling yo-yoers, so we thought we'd keep a diary of sorts. Why not begin at the start of the year? Or rather the end of last year...

We performed at First Night Boston on New Year's Eve, which entailed four shows at the Hynes Convention Center in the heart of the celebration. When we arrived, we saw a few people milling around, and thought we'd maybe get 50 people or so at each of our shows. Little did we know that First Night Boston has over a million attendees, and we ended up playing to full houses with security turning people away. We were on the local news, which you can see on the YouTube clip below.

(This was only our second time performing with a sign language interpreter, which we find very interesting. Unfortunately our interest was distracting because we were so fascinated with what our tricks translated to that we kept turning around to watch him.)
